It is 2018 and we are all still trying to figure out how Instagram Algorithm picks and chooses what gets shared. Well Instagram recently shared some ground breaking news on their Algorithm that gives us better insight.
None of us want to waste our time posting and finding out that our efforts are not being recognized and shared. The whole idea of Instagram is sharing great content and engaging with people that like your brand and want to follow you.

Instagram Algorithm MYTH #1
Instagram Algorithm prefers video over images.
This is not true.
I have heard this over and over again that you MUST do videos. Well you might but it is not because the algorithm looks more favorably towards them.
You may get a false impression when you post a video.
Notice how instagram states the amount of VIEWS when you posted a video BUT when you post an image it states how many LIKES.
To get a better comparison you need to check VIEW INSIGHTS on that specific post.
In the shot below I pressed on View Insights to get a better understanding of how the post is really performing. So you can see there are 19 LIKES.
So now you can see how videos may make you think they are performing way better than your images.
Instagram Algorithm MYTH #2
Instagram Algorithm likes personal accounts more than business accounts.
This is false.
I have tested this and it really does not make any difference to the algorithm if you have a personal or business account.
Again it goes back to your content and if you have people engaging with you. Instagram favours accounts that have comments but also reply’s. It is really important to acknowledge a comment with a reply. It is kind of like someone saying to you ” Hey I love your post!” But you don’t say Thank you!
Then the Instagram algorithm sees that you are not responding and thinks you are not that engaged so you may find your posts don’t reach as many people.
Instagram Algorithm MYTH #3
Instagram Algorithm shows favoritism to accounts that use all the platforms processes like stories, live and emojis.
This is not true.
If you aren’t comfortable using stories or it doesn’t suit your brand then don’t feel you have to use them.
However, if your followers really get into stories then you will be missing an opportunity in giving them what they want.
If your followers like stories and follow a lot of accounts that have stories then more stories will show up in their feed.
